Hair Loss Awareness Month

Hair Loss Awareness Month

Marsha Power

Did you know August is National Hair Loss Awareness Month? It was brought to my attention the other day by my AVEDA representative, and it got me to thinking how common hair loss is to men and women, but we don’t talk about it because it can be such a sensitive issue. We cannot deny that it is real. In fact, it’s estimated that 56 million people suffer from hair loss each year… 40% of them are women. I can assure you it’s okay to lose some hair each day. According to an article in Harvard Health Publishing it is normal to lose 50 to 100 scalp hairs a day, however; excessive hair loss can be the result of a medical condition, heredity, acute stress, dietary issues, medications, grooming and styling habits, medical treatments, physical damage to the scalp, and the list goes on. Hereditary hair loss with age is the most common. Androgenetic alopecia is baldness. It can be temporary or permanent. Oddly, some women are diagnosed with male pattern baldness, and it seems to be hereditary for both men and women. If you have concerns about your hair loss here are a couple of things to consider that we can help you with: 1. Is your hair thinning because of your styling habit? 2. Is what you’re seeing breakage or new growth? Our senior stylist, Eli Bahsous, explains how you can tell if your hair is breaking off or if what you are seeing is new growth. If your hair is thinning and you’re wanting more volume, AVEDA’s plant based Invati Advanced is our number one product for adding volume to your hair. Invati Advanced is a winner for hair that is thinning, weakening, and breaking off. This month we are offering 20% off Invati Advanced by AVEDA at our Northcross and South Shore District salons. Let’s be real, when we feel good about our hair, we feel more confident, and being confident lends itself to health and happiness. By the way, if you know an AVEDA stylist who wants to be part of a dynamic team, email me at jaybirdjunior@gmail.com. Be happy and healthy, Marsha
